DESCRIPTION

Pipebursting is simply the replacement of an aging, cracked, deteriorated, or failed pipe, of the same or larger size, by inserting new pipe at the same time, in the same place, without disturbing most of the environment under which it is laid. The process involves the pushing or pulling of a cone shaped "bursting tool", which has a diameter larger than the existing pipe, through the old pipe, thereby breaking up the old pipe and pushing the fragments into the surrounding earth. The tool tows the new pipe behind it, simultaneously installing it in place as it bursts the old pipe. The simplicity of the process, and the economic savings associated with it are at the heart of its desirability.
